sir,

Enclosure 1.

Res

Colonial fetary ibffice,

Hongkong, 7th. May, 1915.

With reference to your application to the Colonial Office for an appointment in the Sanitary Medical Service in the

Colonies, I am directed to request that you will be so good as to complete and return to me the enclosed application form. It is not necessary to supply copies of your testimonials as these are alrea-

-dy on record,

2. The further enclosures in this letter, which should be

returned in due course, will inform you of the general terms of Colonial Medical appointments. Some of the existing vacancies in West Africa, the Straits Settlements, and the Federated Malay States, may have been filled before your application form is re- -ceived in London, but there will probably be vacancies for which

you can be considered.

3. It is not customary to appoint Sanitary Medical Officers direct from England, as such appointments are usually filled by the selection or promotion of one of the Medical Officers already in the Colony. If, as would appear to be the case, you are qualified for a Sanitary Medical appointment, you would, if appointed as a Medical Officer, be carefully considered with other candidates, possessing similar qualifications, in the Colony to which you are appointed, when a vacancy for a Sanitary Medical

Officer occurs.

I am ete.

(Ed.) Claud Severn,

Colonial Secretary.

Dr. F. Lindsay Wodds.
